It’s that moment when your heart is racing, your face is flushed, your sweaty palms grip the silky sheets and you can’t stand another pulsating minute. That’s right. It’s at that moment you let yourself go, shout “oh, oh yes,” and experience the pleasures of an orgasm.
Marshall Miller and Dorian Solot, sex and relationship educators that are experts on the subject of female orgasm, entertained a packed auditorium of Towson University students on Oct. 19, with their presentation I Love Female Orgasm. They’ve presented nationwide to colleges and universities, conferences, education centers, churches and several businesses, delivering a fun, honest approach to sexual health, sex, intimacy and female orgasm.
“Each orgasm is unique like a snowflake,” Dorian said.
Dorian’s interest in female orgasm stemmed from her sophomore year at Brown University. She was reading a Dear Abby column regarding masturbation and it was expressing that everyone did it and that it was a normal thing to do on a regular basis. Her curiosity peaked at this subject because she had never experienced it herself.
Her intrigue led her to go to the book store and buy a book on female health and sexuality. By the end of the semester, she experienced her first orgasm.
“That was the best $5.99 I ever spent,” Dorian said.
As part of the program, the guys split off into another group with Marshall to have their own private discussions while the girls stayed in the auditorium with Dorian. The girls shared their “first orgasm” stories, talked about when and how they first heard about masturbation and ways to speed up an orgasm. The list included vibrators, sex toys, dirty talk, body piercings, spanking (with consent), porn, the G-Spot, among others.
Once reunited, Marshall and Dorian shared some other facts regarding orgasms. Marshall said, “On average, it takes a woman 20 minutes of direct stimulation to orgasm. The average man, it takes 2-5 minutes.”
While this seemed to shock some students, Marshall pointed out that there are several misconceptions young people have regarding any type of sexual activity, but especially masturbation.
Marshall went on to explain that sometimes, it is hard for some women to reach their G-Spot, so they go to extra lengths to get the feeling they’re looking for. This includes using fruit. Marshall said this can be harmful for the body since most fruit is covered in pesticides.
“Yet another reason to buy organic,” Marshall said with a laugh.
Marshall and Dorian went on to cover topics of faking orgasms, fastest ways vs. favorite ways to orgasm and also female ejaculation.
“I didn’t even know where female ejaculation came from,” Rebecca Lawson, a freshman, said.
To wrap up the event, Marshall and Dorian explained what they called “The Arousal Cycle.” From the excitement phase where you’re getting in the “oh, yeah!” moment to the possibility of having multiples, they said these are the moments that you remember and you should enjoy them.
“I think it was a good way to spend a Monday night,” David Schewietzer, a junior, said.
Towson University Residence Government hosted the event in an effort to provide students a unique take on sexual education. The University invited Marshall and Dorian two years ago and decided it was worth another visit.
”I would definitely, without a doubt, tell the next director of projects that this is something we need to do,” Matt Sikorski, president of URG, said.
Sikorski said the URG would like to see the university host similar events in the future and if I Love Female Orgasm returns, maybe they will present on two nights to make sure every student gets a chance to enjoy it.
“I think it was awesome. We had sold out seats and we had to turn some people away,” Chris Guzman, director of special projects said.
